Infamous for her role as Natalie Green, the fresh-faced teen of the s sitcom "The Facts of Life," Mindy Cohn is best recognizable as the bubbly Tootie-sidesick, generally pleasing television audiences with a G-rated joke on her tongue. Now, she's returning to the Hollywood game with a bit more smash and lot more pizzazz, portraying the feisty lead role in "Violet Tendencies," a Casper Andreas-directed film screening at 6 p.m. Pride 13 at the Burton Theatre as part of the Detroit Independent Production Festival.
Penned by Jesse Archer, "Tendencies" follows the experience of a year-old fruit fly named Violet (Cohn) who devotes her nights to queer men, but ultimately flounders when it comes to finding a man of her own. Taking a friend's advice, Violet abandons her homosexual family on a spiritual quest to find true affection, sparking hilarity, relationship and mayhem as she attempts to change the female she is to find the guy she wants.
Recently, Cohn chatted about her career and shared further awareness into the film.
Tell us, career-wise, what have you been up to since leaving "The Facts of Li Actress Mindy Cohn (The Evidence of Life, Scooby Doo) and Tamlyn Tomita (The Joy Luck Club, Glee) play two gay moms in Quentin Lee’s non-profit educational short film Operation Marriage, for children worldwide. Based on Cynthia Chin-Lee’s children’s book, Operation Marriage is the story told from a child’s point-of-view about an eight-year-old girl and her little brother trying to get their two moms married before Proposition 8 goes into effect. Operation Marriage represents the perspective of kids of LGBT parents rarely seen in literature or popular media. A film for children worldwide, it’s a universal story of family about LGBT rights, marriage equality, and having an alternative family. While the film aspires to be a piece of art, it is also public service announcement and an historical document of a particular moment in time in earth history.
