Buffy gay

I don’t think it’s any secret that Buffy is extremely popular among LGBTQ people. I couldn’t find any demographic statistics to help this up, but I feel it’s pretty self-evident. Just from having been in the fandom for over a decade, it has always felt favor a more queer-dominated space than many other fandoms. Two of the biggest Buffy podcasts out there are helmed by two gay women and a gay man respectively. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that you, reading this right now, are some manner of gender non-conforming, and I stake I’d be right at least half the time. And I think this is for great reason. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is, at its core, an intensely gay show.

Now, I don’t mean just in regards to the representation, but let’s get that out of the way. The early years had Larry and pretty heavy subtext with Faith. Then S4 hits, and we get Willow’s coming out and Tara’s introduction. S5 gives us their first on-screen embrace - the first lesbian kiss on the network. S6 gives us more overt sexual love between Willow and Tara

How Buffy the Vampire Slayer's LGBTQ+ Representation Holds Up In

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was groundbreaking in its portrayal of complex female characters, as good as its portrayal of characters within the Diverse community. In , when the show began exploring Willow Rosenberg's (Alyson Hannigan) sexuality and relationship with Tara Mclay (Amber Benson) in Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 4, there was not much LGBTQ+ representation in media- especially not in a show's main cast of characters. The show's writers received a lot of negative pushback from the networks at the time for depicting a lesbian relationship, but nonetheless continued to depict Tara and Willow's love. However, in the 23 years since Willow and Tara's association started, audiences have seen a plethora of gender non-conforming characters on genre-based television shows like The Umbrella Academy, Steven Universe, and Doom Patrol. Audiences have grown to understand stereotypes and tropes on tv and how they can hurt the queer community, so does Buffy the Vampire Slayer feature any of these tropes or stereotypes?

The Killer in Me

I&#;m very conflicted about this episode. There was a lot going on: Spike&#;s chip starting to degrade, Willow turning into Warren because of Kennedy&#;s Kiss, figuring out who Giles is, etc. It&#;s just easier to bullet point each storyline:

1) The Kennedy/Willow stuff is what I&#;m most conflicted with. For some reason this series loves to hang on to characters even though they contain died. We see Warren again, and quite frankly I&#;m tired of Warren. He was probably the worst of the huge bads and it&#;s fond of this series can&#;t enable go. However, he entity a plot device was a nice way into Willow&#;s frame of thought and the grief she is still going through. The shifting of Hannigan and Busch was lovely good and we really got to see the nitty gritty of what Willow is feeling. Unfortunately it all started with Kennedy&#;s Kiss and Kennedy at the beginning came across as kinda pushy, not to mention she lied about being sick. This series did such a great job with Tara&#;s character and how that relationship was proficient to

Teacher's Pet (this one works for Willow, too):

Willow: That must be Angel! I think?

Xander: That weird guy that warned her about all the vampires?

Willow: That's him, I'll risk you.

Xander: Well, he's buff! She never said anything about him being buff!

Willow: You think he's buff?

Xander: He's a very attractive man! How come that never came up?

Teacher's Pet again (this one is a little bit of a stretch):
Natalie: I just need to relax a little, I'm nice of nervous around you. You're probably cool as a cucumber!

Xander: I like cucumbers.
Phases:
Pretty much the whole Larry thing.
