Queer Dates: Kate Bush Karaoke
by Johnnie Walker on September 26th, in Blind Date
It was a complete accident when, a couple of weeks ago, I sat at the bar right next to the guy I went on my first ever gay appointment with. In fact, grabbing a gin and cucumber cocktail at The Sacred Oak for the packed and sweaty all-Kate Bush edition of Live Piano Karaoke was basically taking myself out on a gay date, and I parked myself in the only seat left.
It took a while for the recognition to set in. The first song of the night was “Babooshka,” sung by a female who immediately regretted the decision. And there he was, joining her for back-up! Still, I didn’t clue-in. After, they returned to their seats and the woman struck up a conversation with me in which she mentioned her friend’s nickname. Suddenly, I knew exactly who he was. When she asked if we’d met before, he seemed nervous and muttered something unintelligible, so I answered: “We went on a spend time ten years ago.”
I didn’t start gay dating ‘til I was 21, which even by standards made me a late-ish bloomer. My closety teen years were ber

For the first time in over thirty-five years, Kate Bush’s seminal track Running Up That Hill – taken from LP Hounds of Care for – has charted in the UK Top On 12 June, it was confirmed that Kates track had ended Harry Styles ten-week tenure at number one, rendering it her first number one since Wuthering Heights was released in
Teenagers across the world are now discovering her magic for the first time, with the track experiencing a rapid expand in Spotify streams since it featured in cult Netflix series Stranger Things. With Season 4 premiering in May , this season’s storyline features a much-darker hook as teenagers across Hawkins perish in eerily similar circumstances. The gang quickly decipher this as the work of demon of the upside-down, Vecna, finding that the only way for an infected victim to struggle off this fate is to act their favourite ballad. This is where Kate Bush comes in.

A couple weeks ago, Kate Bush was a guest on BBC Radio 4’s The Today Podcast promoting her new short clip, Little Shrew, set to her song “Snowflake” and featuring a shrew refugee trying to receive out of a demolished metropolis. On the episode, the hosts asked Bush if she was working on new music right now to which she replied, “Not at the moment, but I’ve been caught up doing a lot of archive function over the last few years, redesigning our website, putting a lyric book together [] I’m very keen to start productive on a new album when I’ve got this finished. I’ve got lots of ideas, and I’m really looking forward to getting back into that innovative space. It’s been a extended time.”
Naturally, when the episode dropped, coverage of her response began popping up all over, and I sent these partially factually incorrect but nonetheless real messages to everyone I knew who would be interested:
I started listening to Bush’s music in I was on a short highway trip to Orlando to observe the Silver Jews play on their final tour with my cousin, one of the only family members I truly join with on an artis
How Kate Bush Became a Unique and Enduring Icon

As a reissue of her entire album back catalogue is released, Nick Levine investigates the root of and reason for the Wuthering Heights singer’s iconic status
TextNick Levine
Kate Bush is often portrayed as otherworldly and ethereal, perhaps because we’ll always picture her twirling on those wiley, windy moors of ’s Wuthering Heights video. That iconic image – coupled with her infrequent musical output, a year hiatus between headline live shows, and a healthy disdain for playing the star game – has created a legend both idealistic and reductive. She’s a “vanishing siren” with an “eccentric and intense” way of life who epitomises the “reclusive genius”. But as today’s reissue of her entire, album support catalogue makes clear, Kate Bush’s incredible music remains impossible to pigeonhole in this way.
Bush cemented her reputation as a musical heavyweight with ’s masterful Hounds of Love album, home to alt-pop gems including Running Up That Hill and Cloudbusting. By this stage, s
